Curry Gate Matthews: Reviews & Ratings
We found our new favorite Indian spot! Everything was delicious but Tikka Masala was outstanding! Place was very clean and they had very good service. Definitely would come back and try more things on a menu.
Quick lunch bite, the Chicken korma is packed with flavor, juicy chicken and a unique blend of coconut flavors 8/10. Dun biryanami had so much chicken drums everything was absolutely delightful 8/10.The Garlic naan was light airy and had just the right amount of garlic 10/10. Highly recommend this spot, friendly staff and excellent food. The only complaint is the inside was a bit bland but the food and experience makes up for it.
Simply delicious authentic Indian cuisine that you don’t have to drive uptown to enjoy! I ordered carry out and was pleasantly surprised how hot and yummy everything tasted. The interior is simple and clean- nothing fancy, but welcoming. Off the beaten path location so drive slowly and look for the sign.
Curry Gate in Matthews is a hidden gem! We had samosas for appetizer then shared Chicken Korma and Biryani—every dish was beautifully presented, full of rich flavor, and cooked perfectly. The service was just as impressive—friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell they care about both the food and the experience. Definitely a new favorite of ours for Indian cuisine in the area!
It's a small place but it's a very clean place. The servers are very attentive . Our food came in a timely manner. The food was very delicious. We would definitely come back.
This just might be one of the best traditional Indian & Nepali cuisine spots! Everything was fresh, made from scratch & had a great flavor complexity. My favorite dishes were the CG Special Biryani / Chicken 65 & the Korma. You can choose your heat. The levels are from 1-11. We went with some 4-5 options & it was the best kind of heat. If you like some spice, this is the place. I have a feeling that 11 is unreal! For my gluten free, vegan & vegetarian friends they have plenty of options.
A Must-Try Gem in Matthews – Curry Gate Delivers Big Flavor! Curry Gate in Matthews is an absolute gem! I had the tandoori chicken and garlic naan, and both were out of this world. The tandoori chicken was perfectly marinated, juicy, and packed with bold, smoky flavor—the kind that lingers in the best way. The garlic naan was soft, buttery, and full of flavor on its own, but paired with the chicken? Pure perfection. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food came out hot and fresh. If you're craving authentic, delicious Indian cuisine in a cozy, welcoming setting, Curry Gate is the place to go. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
Outstanding all around! I'm new to Indian cuisine, never had Nepalese, but was very pleasantly surprised! The host (also my server) was very friendly and courteous! I had my mind set on a saucy curry-type dish but the featured item, CG Special Biryani, caught my eye and palate and it did NOT disappoint!! The spice scale at the bottom of each page of the menu was very helpful. I asked for level 3 but he informed me this dish starts at level 5. Ok, I'll go for it but please bring plenty of water. I was surprised they serve beverages from single serve bottles even the water (not a negative just interesting). My food arrived very quickly but did not taste old. I wish I had taken a picture (but there are several on the Google listing). A mountain of savory aroma was set before me! The seasoned basmati rice was moist and filled with herbs . The biryani chicken (legs on bone) satisfied my curry longing with the prominent garam masala spice. The 65 Chicken was spicy but OH SO tasty. (Note to those with nut allergies, this does have nuts!) The heat hits more in the back of your palate than the front so it's bearable. Still, it opened up my sinuses and had me lightly weeping. My server noticed and he offered a mango drink on the house. Made with yogurt (like a smoothie) this was refreshing and definitely cooled my throat! The naan bread was so buttery and fluffy...also helped with the spice-heat. I can't imagine what a level 10 spice would be!! The portion was so much I took home and had 2 more meals out of it! Definitely coming back (despite a 50 minute drive)!!! I overheard another couple say that this is the best Indian food in Charlotte!
